I have my tax refund held by HMRC for more than 4 months, they say that some security checks are being done which prevent paying out the money. Can you advise on what can be done in this situation?
Security checks are sometimes done by HMRC which may cause delays in repayment of your refund. Delays sometimes last for over a year. All you can do in this situation is call HMRC continuously and send them any information they require, which will usually be your deduction statements and bank statements.

Yes, you can claim a tax refund for the last 6 years.
